Description
The War Memorial located at St Peter's Court on Dewsbury Road is dedicated to the soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. It features a Celtic cross made of Portland stone, with a tall octagonal shaft that stands on a deep octagonal base. The base is inscribed with the names of soldiers on all eight sides. The square plinth has chamfered corners and displays the following inscription:
"THANK OFFERING TO GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS CHURCH AND PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM 1914-1919"
While the names of at least one hundred individuals are difficult to read, the main inscription remains clear. This memorial holds local significance and reflects the community's contribution and sacrifice during the war.
