Description
259 Dewsbury Road is a public house built around 1900, featuring a richly decorated facade made of white faience, likely from Burmantofts. The building has a slate hipped roof that is gabled at the rear and stands two storeys tall with three bays. The central doorway on the ground floor is flanked by bar windows, all set within an elliptically-arched bay. This bay is flanked by paired pilasters that support an entablature topped with a wide segmental pediment above the central doorway. The doorway includes carved side lights, a round-arch central fanlight, and a small pediment above it.
On the first floor, there is a voussoired round-headed recess with a small segmental-headed window featuring a large keyblock and an open pediment on console brackets, along with festooned spandrels. Between the first-floor bays, paired composite pilasters support a dentilled cornice that projects over the oriels and features a wide segmental pediment at the center containing a cartouche. The parapet is raised at the center. To the left, there is a one-storey half bay on the ground floor with a round-arched window and door.
The left-hand return of the building has two first-floor canted bay windows, and a wide four-flue stack straddles the ridge at the center. The interior was replanned and refitted in the late 20th century.
