Description

The stable block, now functioning as a wagon house, is located approximately 15 metres north of Hazel House in Rothwell Watergate, Methley. It is believed to date from the 17th century and has undergone some alterations. The structure is built from sandstone rubble with quoins and features a steeply-pitched roof that is now covered with asbestos sheeting. The building has a rectangular plan and consists of two low storeys on the exterior. The ground floor includes three doorways, one of which has been altered, and three square windows that are blocked. Additionally, there are four small two-light mullioned windows situated under the eaves; one of these has been replaced with a casement, one is blocked, and two retain their stop-chamfered mullions. Garage doors have been inserted at the north gable.

Inside, the interior has been altered, and it is presumed that the upper floor has been removed. The roof structure consists of common rafters with six trusses featuring tie-beams, from which raked struts rise to the purlins.
