Description
Church Side Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered, enlarged, and recently renovated. It features sandstone rubble construction with quoins and a stone slate roof. The building has a double-pile plan due to a later addition at the rear and stands two-and-a-half storeys tall. The symmetrical facade has three bays, with a chamfered square-headed doorway in the center. Above the door is an inserted 16-pane sashed window, and above this is a lead rainwater head dated 1642, which likely comes from an earlier structure.
On the left side of the ground floor, there are double-chamfered 3-light stone mullioned windows, and on the right side at the first floor, there is a similar window, both with straight drip-moulds above. To the right of the door, there is a late 18th-century triple window with square flush mullions. The facade is topped with two large gabled dormers featuring 3-light mullioned windows, which have been recently rebuilt. The gable coping includes kneelers, and there are large external chimney stacks at each gable. The left gable wall has a 2-light window on each floor, while the right gable has one at the first floor, all matching the windows at the front. The rear range, dating from the 19th century, is of less architectural interest.
Inside, the farmhouse contains three stop-chamfered beams. Each front room has a rectangular fireplace with a chamfered surround; the left room has a larger fireplace with a small rectangular recess to the right, possibly a former salt cupboard. The rear wall of the right-hand room includes a blocked chamfered doorway leading to an earlier building.
