Description
The stable block at Babworth Hall is an early 19th-century structure made of ashlar, render, and red brick, featuring slate roofs that are hipped to the north and west. It has a quadrangle plan and is primarily a single-storey building, with a 1.5-storey cottage located to the east. The stable block is set on an ashlar plinth and has a west side that consists of eight bays, which include six large arched carriage doorways, each with double, panelled wooden doors. These doorways are flanked by single doorways with panelled doors and traceried overlights. The left doorway is blocked. All doorways have rusticated surrounds and arches, each with a keystone. Centrally located is a clock housed in a wooden case.
On the south side, which is rendered, there are seven bays. From right to left, there is a single blocked doorway with a rusticated ashlar splayed lintel, a single segmental glazing bar casement with an ashlar surround and a sill at the same level as the door lintel, another blocked doorway with a similar lintel, another segmental casement and surround, a doorway with a partially glazed panelled door and a similar lintel, another segmental casement and surround, and a final blocked doorway replaced by a 20th-century casement with a similar lintel.
The east side, also rendered, has seven bays with a central rusticated carriage-arch featuring a keystone. To the right, there is a doorway with a panelled door and a rusticated ashlar splayed lintel, flanked by single segmental glazing bar casements with ashlar surrounds. To the left is the 1.5-storey cottage, which has red brick gables where heightened. It features a central doorway with a panelled door and a rusticated and painted splayed ashlar lintel, flanked by single glazing bar sashes with two small sashes above. The north side, rendered, has four single doorways with panelled doors and rusticated splayed ashlar lintels, alternating with three segmental glazing bar casements with ashlar surrounds, with the sills of the casements level with the door lintels.
