Description

Swiss Cottages, located on Babworth Park Drive in East Retford, is a house that was originally two cottages built in the late 18th century, likely designed by Repton. The building features red brick construction with uncut timber cladding that mimics a log cabin appearance. It has a slate roof with a deep overhang at the eaves and a single central red brick ridge stack. The structure is a single storey plus a garret and consists of three bays, with both the front and rear showcasing a single projecting bay at opposite corners.

The front entrance includes a wooden door, with a single glazing bar Yorkshire sash window to the right and a single four-light glazing bar casement window to the left in the projecting bay. The left gable has a projecting roof supported by wooden brackets and a plain bargeboard, featuring a balcony adorned with carved wooden panels and fascia, which is supported by three wooden posts. This gable also includes two large fixed glazing bar lights, a doorway with a wooden door above, and a single four-light glazing bar casement window to the right, along with another single light glazing bar casement window.

At the rear, there is a doorway with a wooden door, a single two-light glazing bar casement window to the right, and a single three-light glazing bar fixed light to the left in the projecting bay. Additionally, there are single storey brick and slate extensions on the left side. Inside, some ground floor rooms feature timber beams.
