Description

Holy Trinity Hospital, originally founded in 1664, is a range of almshouses largely rebuilt in 1832 and with additions in 1872, designed by Edward Blore. The building forms three sides of a courtyard. The exterior is of Gothic brick with stone dressings. The courtyard is enclosed by an arcaded stone wall, topped with urn finials, and features a stone entry with an overthrow bearing an inscription above a 4-centred arch. The almshouses are single-storeyed, with a gable to each, each containing a window in the gable. Doors and windows have rectangular dripmoulds. The gabled ends each have a window in the upper part and a mullioned window on the ground floor. The chimneys are tall and set diagonally, most being paired. A later chapel block, with a dripmould window, is centrally placed. To the left of the chapel is a clock tower with a Welsh slate spire roof topped with a finial.
