Description
The stable block, located approximately 50 meters north of Hedenham Hall, is a former stable and gig house that has been converted into a store. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and is constructed of red brick, likely replacing an earlier timber frame. The building features a steeply-pitched pantile roof and has one and a half storeys with a rectangular plan.
The south wall has been largely rebuilt, with the left-hand bay marked by plain brick pilasters. This bay includes a cross-window and a doorway, both topped with flat moulded brick hoods. There is an off-centre double carriage entrance with two pairs of doors, which have segmental relieving arches above them. A gabled dormer with a boarded door is situated above this entrance. The west gable has a crow-stepped design and small internal chimney stacks, along with two pairs of 2-light ovolo-moulded windows on both the ground and first floors, featuring transoms and flat moulded brick hoods over the openings. Additionally, there are two ventilation loops in the apex of the gable and tie irons shaped like the number 97 on the ends of the purlins. The east gable is rendered and colourwashed, with a pantiled lean-to at its base. The north wall contains three doorways and three 2-light windows, along with an upper loading hatch and a small light positioned beneath the eaves.
Inside, the stable block features jowled posts integrated into the brickwork, and the tie beam has been cut at the west end. The roof structure consists of staggered butt-purlins.
