HEDENHAM CHURCH ROAD TM 39 SW 6/68 Stable Block approx. 25-9-51 50m north of Hedenham Hall

Former stables and gig house, now store. Late C17/early C18. Red brick, probably replacing timber frame. Steeply-pitched pantile roof. l 1/2 storeys, rectangular plan. South wall much rebuilt; left hand bay, defined by plain brick pilasters, has a cross-window and a doorway both with flat moulded brick hoods. Double carriage entrance off-centre with two pairs of doors with segmental relieving arches over: lintol. Gabled dormer with boarded door above. Crow-stepped west gable with small internal chimney stacks: two 2- light ground floor and first floor ovolo-moulded windows, transoms to ground floor windows and flat moulded brick hoods over openings. Two ventilation loops in gable apex, tie irons in the form of numbers 97 on purlin ends. East gable rendered and colourwashed; pantiled lean-to at gable base. North wall has three doorways and three 2-light windows, upper loading hatch and small light under eaves line. Interior: has jowled posts built into brickwork, tie beam cut at west end. Staggered butt-purlin roof.
