Description
This is a mile post located on Main Street in Aberford, likely dating from the mid-19th century. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular shape with a flat, semi-circular head. Cast-iron plates with raised lettering are bolted onto the head and each of the two outer faces. The head displays curved lettering that identifies the road as "FERRYBRIDGE & BOROUGHBRIDGE ROAD," with the place name "ABERFORD" below. The side plates provide distance information, indicating that Aberford is half a mile away, Wetherby is 6 and three-quarter miles away, Ferry Bridge is 10 miles away, and Doncaster is 25 miles away.
