Description

The stable block located at the rear of the Swan Hotel is now used as stables and a garage. It likely dates from the late 18th century and has been altered over time. The building is constructed of limestone and features a stone slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan that forms the south and west sides of the inn yard.

The stable block is two storeys high and has four windows on the first floor. The west range includes four stables, with four doorways at ground level; the middle two are fitted with stable doors. Above these, there are four square windows, with the leftmost window blocked and the rightmost filled with a painted signboard that reads: "J. HEATON licensed TO LET POST HORSES Post Hill."

The south range features a segmental-headed wagon doorway in the center, modern garage doors to the right, and a doorway near the junction similar to those in the west range. There is another doorway at the left end that has been altered into a window, along with four square windows on the first floor, with a creeper at the left end possibly covering a fifth window. All windows and stable doors have splayed stone heads, and the building has a hipped roof.

Inside, the stable at the left end of the west range contains an original stall, but the rest of the interior has not been inspected.
