Description

The Swan Hotel is a coaching inn, now a public house and hotel, likely dating from the mid to late 18th century and altered internally. It is constructed of limestone with a white-painted stucco facade, featuring a stone slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan, with two storeys and a cellar, spanning four bays, including a receding wing and a rear extension to the fourth bay.

An entrance is provided by a segmental-headed coach archway through the ground floor of the third bay. The passage to the right of the archway incorporates a blocked doorway with a coach bell above. Flanking the archway are two-storey canted bays with 12-pane sash windows and sillbands on both floors. The right-hand bay is wider with a round-headed, recessed cellar door on its right side and a four-pane sash window above the archway displaying a moulded name plate reading "SWAN HOTEL". To the left of the leftmost bay is a doorway approached by five steps, paired with a 16-pane sashed window on each floor. Chimneys are positioned at the left end of the building, on the ridge, and on the ridge of the wing.

The right return wall features an added single-storey porch and various sash windows. The rear has a single-storey extension to the second bay and a longer extension to the receding wing of the fourth bay, constructed in two sections with roughcast rendering. Ridge chimneys punctuate the roof, which is hipped and swept at the right-hand end. The interior has been altered.
