Description
Numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 Church Terrace are a row of four cottages built in the late 18th or early 19th century. The cottages are constructed from dressed magnesian limestone, with Nos 1 and 2 rendered. They have stone slate roofs. The cottages are two storeys high and have alternating single and double-fronted facades, with one, three, two, and three bays, respectively. Nos 1 and 2 have panelled doors; the door to No 1 has a rectangular fanlight above it, and the windows are 16-pane, boxed sash windows (except for the first floor of No 1, which has 12 panes). No 2 has a vertical fixed window with eight panes above the door. Nos 3 and 4 have panelled doors leading up three steps. The door to No 3 has glazed top panels, and the door to No 4 has a blocked rectangular fanlight and evidence of a former gabled porch. No 3 has a tall, round-headed passage entrance to the right of the door, a 12-pane sashed window to the left, and two windows above. No 4 has two 16-pane sashes on each floor and a fixed window with altered glazing in the centre of the first floor. The openings in Nos 3 and 4 have flat-arched heads with splayed voussoirs. The passage through No 3 has brick lining walls. The cottages have four ridge chimneys, and the roofs join between Nos 2 and 3. The interiors have not been inspected. Nos 1 and 2 are included in the listing primarily for their group value.
