Stable Block Approximately 50 Metres North Of Wood House With Attached Wall To South

The stable block, located approximately 50 metres north of Wood House, dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features low-pitched hipped roofs covered in graded slate, along with wide spreading eaves. The building is one and two storeys high and has a stone impost band.

The central three-bay block, which was formerly a tack room, is flanked by coach houses and has one-storey stables on either side that project at right angles, terminating in rectangular corner pavilions that once housed grooms' accommodation on the first floor. The main block includes three lunette windows (with the outer ones being blind) situated below the eaves, and wide segmental carriage arches with boarded doors on either side of a central round-headed doorway. There are identical round-headed doorways leading to the flanking stables, one in the main range and two in the returns.

The corner pavilions feature round-headed windows on each floor at the front, with the left wing having a blind lower half and the right pavilion having a window on the ground floor only. Both pavilions have wide segmental arches with boarded doors on the inner returns and blind lunette windows above. A red brick stack is located at the rear of the left pavilion.

An attached wall to the south connects the stable block with the service range of Wood House. This wall is made of red brick with stone coping and features an 8-bay arcade of blind round-headed arches, gently sloping upwards at each end.
