Description
Smithy Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with later additions and alterations, located in Rednal, West Felton. The building features a roughcast timber frame and a slate roof, which has an integral end stack on the right that was rebuilt in 20th-century red brick. It has a two-cell plan and is one storey high with a gable-lit attic. There are 19th-century casement windows on the left and right of a mid-20th-century glazed door, along with a small top-hung 20th-century casement on the far left. At the rear on the right, there is a roughcast brick lean-to.
Inside, there is a timber-framed partition wall with light panels in the left room. The right room features a chamfered spine beam and joists. A large stack includes an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel. To the left of the stack, there is an oak winder staircase with plain 18th-century balusters leading to the rail on the first floor. The roof is a single-purlin type with an exposed central collar and tie beam truss.
