Description
This milepost, located against the wall of the garden to St. Wilfrid's Roman Catholic Church, dates from the mid 19th century. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular section with a flat semicircular head. Cast-iron plates with raised lettering are bolted onto the head and each of the two outer faces. The head displays curved lettering that identifies the road as "FERRYBRIDGE & BOROUGHBRIDGE ROAD" with the place name "ABERFORD" below. The side plates indicate distances to various locations: FERRY ABERFORD BRIDGE is half a mile away, WETHERBY is 9 miles, DONCASTER is 7 and three-quarter miles, and BOROUGH BRIDGE is 20 miles.
