Description
The Cottage is an estate lodge that was built for the now-demolished Parlington Hall, likely in the late 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with some areas featuring remnants of scored stucco, and has a modern pantile roof. The building is square in shape and consists of two storeys with two bays, facing the lane with a symmetrical classical style. The central entrance has a panelled door topped by a 2-pane fanlight, and is framed by a large round-headed recessed arch with a moulded cornice supported by consoles. Each floor has two 12-pane sashed windows with crown glass glazing, and the gable features a pediment with a blind oval. A brick chimney is located on the ridge. There are short screen walls on either side of the building, with a doorway on the left and a blind doorway on the right. The side walls include both blind and sashed windows. Additionally, there is a 19th-century brick single-storey service wing in the courtyard on the left.
