Description
This is a milepost located on Aberford Road in Sturton Grange, likely dating from the mid-19th century. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular section and a flat semicircular head. Cast-iron plates with raised lettering are bolted onto the head and each of the two outer faces.
The head is inscribed with "WAKEFIELD & ABERFORD" around the circumference, along with "ROAD STURTON." The side plates indicate distances, stating "WAKEFIELD AND 11 MILES," "ABERFORD 2 MILES," and "OULTON 6 MILES."
