Description
Aberford Road Bridge is a railway skew basket arch overbridge built for the Leeds & Selby Railway between 1830 and 1834, designed by Walker & Burges and constructed by Hamer & Pratt. It is made of squared and coursed quarry-faced limestone and sandstone ashlar.
The bridge features a single span designed to accommodate four tracks. It is part of a series of bridges on the Leeds & Selby Railway that share a common design. The wide arch springs from an impost band and is constructed with stepped, rusticated, and v-jointed ashlar voussoirs. The wing walls are straight, and the parapet is set upon a square-moulded ashlar string course. Both parapets have been raised with courses of ashlar, and it is understood that the original coping has been re-used.
