Description
This is a milepost, likely from the mid-19th century, located on the east side of Wakefield Road in Garforth. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular section and a flat semicircular head. Cast-iron plates with raised lettering are bolted onto the head and each of the two outer faces. The head is inscribed with "WAKEFIELD & ABERFORD - round the circumference ROAD GARFORTH," while the side plates indicate distances to various locations: "WAKEFIELD 9 MILES," "ABERFORD 4 MILES," and "OULTON 4 MILES."
