Description
This is a milepost located on Aberford Road in Garforth, Leeds, likely dating from the mid-19th century. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular section and a flat semicircular head. The cast-iron plates are bolted onto the head and the two outer faces of the post, with raised lettering. The head of the milepost is inscribed with "WAKEFIELD & ABERFORD" around the circumference, along with "ROAD GARFORTH." The side plates indicate distances to various locations: "WAKEFIELD 10 MILES," "ABERFORD 3 MILES," and "OULTON 5 MILES."
