Description

This is a milepost, likely from the mid-19th century, located on Aberford Road in Parlington. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular shape with a flat semi-circular top. The cast-iron plates, which are bolted onto the top and both outer sides, display raised lettering. The top of the milepost is inscribed with "WAKEFIELD & ABERFORD" around the edge, "ROAD" in the center, and "PARLINGTON" below. The side plates provide distance information, indicating that Wakefield is 12 miles away, Aberford is 1 mile away, and Oulton is 7 miles away.
