Description

Milepost opposite No 34, dating from the mid to late 19th century, is made of cast iron with a triangular front mounted on a stone post that has a rounded top. The raised letters on the milepost indicate the distances: "WAKEFIELD & ABERFORD ROAD WAKEFIELD ABERFORD 12 MILES 1 MILE OULTON 4 MILES." This milepost marks the route of the Wakefield and Aberford Turnpike road, which was established in 1788/9.
