Description
This is a milepost located on Micklefield Roman Road, likely dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular shape with a flat semicircular head. The cast-iron plates, which are bolted onto the head and each of the two outer faces, display raised lettering. The head is inscribed with "BARNSDALE & LEEDS ROAD" around the circumference, "NOOK MOOR BRANCH" in the center, and "MICKLEFIELD" below. The side plates indicate distances to various locations: Doncaster 22 miles, Pontefract 7 and 3/4 miles, Wetherby 9 and 3/4 miles, Castleford 4 and 1/4 miles, and Aberford 2 and 1/2 miles.
