Description

This is a milepost, likely from the mid-19th century, located on Barnsdale Road in Kippax. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular shape with a flat semicircular head. Cast-iron plates with raised lettering are bolted onto the head and the two outer faces. The head of the milepost is inscribed with "BARNSDALE & LEEDS ROAD" around the circumference, and "HOOK MOOR BRANCH KIPPAX." The side plates display distances to various locations: "DONCASTER 21 MILES," "BOROBRIDGE 23 MILES," "PONTEFRACT 6 3/4 MILES," and "WETHERBY 10 3/4 MILES."
