Description
Sheepcote Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was remodelled and enlarged in the 18th century. It is constructed from Magnesian limestone rubble and features a slate roof. The building is now double-pile due to the addition of a parallel range at the rear of the original house.
The farmhouse has two storeys and consists of four bays. Notable features include part of a cambered lintel from a former doorway at the left-hand corner and remnants of heads and jambs from former mullioned windows located between the existing openings. The current openings include an inserted doorway in the second bay and boxed sash windows with 16, 12, and 16 panes on the ground floor, and 16, 12, 12, and 16 panes on the upper floor.
There is a large external chimney stack on the right-hand gable, a brick chimney on the other gable, and another chimney on the ridge. The rear of the right-hand end has a blocked three-light mullioned window on the first floor, with remains of another below it, while the rear of the added range features segmental-headed windows. The farmhouse is listed for its group value.
