Description
Number 2 Winder at Ledston Luck Colliery is a winding house, built in 1911, and is the eastern of a pair. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and has a corrugated asbestos roof. The building has a rectangular plan and a storeyed appearance, raised over a basement, designed in a Free Classical style.
The south front features a recessed center flanked by corner pylons. There is a flight of steps leading to an off-centre Tudor-style doorway. To the right of the doorway, there is a large three-stage twelve-light mullion and transom window. A moulded cornice sits beneath a stone parapet between the pylons. The pylons have short angle-buttresses with stone weathering, and each side features a three-light mullioned window, topped by a high embattled parapet with a small raised panel.
The left (west) side wall includes a pseudo-pylon at the rear corner and a round-headed window in the center. The rear of the building has three very large segmental-headed windows with small panes. Various additions have been made to the rear and the east side, which are not included in this listing. This item is included for its group value with Number 1 Winder.
