Description
This milepost, located on Barnsdale Road in Kippax, is likely from the mid-19th century. It is made of stone and features cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular shape with a flat semicircular head. Cast-iron plates with raised lettering are bolted onto the head and both outer faces. The head is inscribed with "BARNSDALE & LEEDS ROAD" around its circumference, while the side plates indicate distances to various locations: "BOROBRIDGE 24 MILES," "DONCASTER 20 MILES," "WETHERBY 11 3/4 MILES," "PONTEFRACT 5 3/4 MILES," "ABERFORD 4 1/2 MILES," and "CASTLEFORD 2 1/2 MILES."
