Description
Milepost, probably from the mid 19th century. It is made of stone with cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular section and a flat semi-circular head. Cast-iron plates with raised lettering are bolted onto the head and each of the two outer faces. The head is inscribed with "BARNSDALE & LEEDS ROAD" around the circumference, while the side plates indicate distances to various locations: "DONCASTER 9 MILES", "BOROBRIDGE 25 MILES", "PONTEFRACT 4 3/4 MILES", "WETHERBY 12 3/4 MILES", "CASTLEFORD 1½ MILES", and "ABERFORD 5½ MILES".
