Description
Milepost, probably from the mid 19th century. It is made of stone with cast-iron plates. The stone post has a triangular section and a flat semi-circular head, with cast-iron plates featuring raised lettering bolted onto the head and each of the two outer faces. The head is inscribed with "TADCASTER AND HALTONDIAL" around the circumference and "TURNPIKE ROAD" along the base. The side plates indicate distances: TADCASTER 5 MILES and LEEDS 9 MILES.
