Description
This building complex consists of a barn, stables, and granary located in the yard immediately north of Manor Farmhouse. It is mostly from the early 18th century, although the granary may date back to the 17th century. The structures are built from magnesian limestone rubble with quoins and have stone slate roofs. The layout is L-shaped, forming the west and north sides of the yard.
The barn, situated at the west end of the yard, has five bays and is tall, featuring slit breathers at various levels. It has opposed wagon entrances in the center, timber lintels, a door to the first bay, and a square loading door above this entrance. Attached to the right end of the barn is a stable and cow-house range, which is built at a right angle and consists of two sections. The stables have three bays with three stable doors, and a square 9-pane fixed window above the center door. There is also a lean-to store in the angle. The attached cow-house, which is of an earlier build, has quoins and is of similar length to the stables. It features a stable door offset to the left of center, altered horizontal rectangular windows in each outer bay, and a small loading door above the entrance. This range is under one roof and is at a lower level than the barn.
Inside, the barn contains six king-post roof trusses, with those in the southern half featuring V-struts and all having longitudinal bracing to the ridge. The cow-house has a granary above it, with a clay floor supported by large beams and stop-chamfered joists. It has three roof trusses, two of which have heavily cambered tie-beams, possibly halved timber, and king posts with V-struts. The yard is enclosed by a contemporary wall on the other two sides, featuring rounded coping on the side facing the road. This complex is listed as a good example of a complete set of agricultural buildings.
