Description
Field House is a house from the late 18th century that has been altered. It is constructed of magnesian limestone ashlar, with a rendered lower part of the ground floor and a stone slate roof. The building has a rectangular double-depth plan with a rear extension. In a classical style, it is symmetrical, featuring two storeys and three bays, with a slightly projected three-bay pedimented centre. The façade includes a first-floor band, a moulded cornice, and a low parapet. The central round-headed recessed arch contains a round-headed doorway with a moulded surround and imposts, a fanlight with radiating glazing bars, and a panelled door. There are two flat-arched four-pane sash windows at the ground floor and three above, with the central window being narrower. An oeil-de-boeuf window is present in the pediment, along with gable copings and chimneys. Inside, there is a staircase with stick balusters and a ramped handrail. It is said that Field House was built as a private academy.
