Description
Nether End Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with a south front that was added in the mid or late 18th century, along with later additions from the late 18th century. The building features a mix of rendered and hammer-dressed stone, with quoins and a stone slate roof that has gable copings on moulded kneelers. It is two storeys high.
The elevation facing the farmyard includes an entrance with a moulded surround and an arched head. To the right of the entrance, there is a 5-light window with a hood mould that has square stops, along with a 4-light window with a hood mould on the first floor. Both of these windows are double chamfered, with two of their mullions removed. There is also a later cross window to the left and a projecting gable further to the left.
Set back to the right is a late 18th-century addition. The south front has four bays, with raised quoins and window surrounds, featuring recent casements. The entrance has a small stone canopy supported by consoles, and there is a sill band on the first floor. The gable stacks are made of ashlar, and there are stone brackets for the gutter, all dating from the late 18th century. At the rear, there is an outshut with late 18th-century openings.
The interior has not been fully inspected, but a dog-leg stair with a ramped moulded handrail is visible in the 17th-century portion, which is contemporary with the south front.
