Description

Upper Bagden Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble with quoins, and has a stone slate roof with hollow chamfered gable copings on moulded kneelers. The farmhouse has a house and cross-wing, with a rear extension forming an outshut and creating an L-shaped plan. The front and gable walls of the main house have been largely rebuilt with 20th-century openings. The rear wall of the house, within the outshut, features timber framing, including at least one post with bracing and an aisle-tie, along with studding and plank infill. The cross-wing, now used for storage, has similar front and rear gables. It contains a 3-light double chamfered window on each floor, each with a hood mould. A dovecote sits at the front apex and a fire window is located on the side of each gable. Inside the cross-wing, at upper floor level, a timber post remains visible and is likely related to the original house structure.
