Description
Nathans Cottages is a mid-18th century building with early 19th century alterations, located in Marsden. It consists of two cottages, with a later third cottage added to the east. The structure is made of hammer-dressed stone and features quoins and a pitched stone slate roof. There are four stacks with hollow chamfered copings.
The south elevation has two storeys. On the ground floor, there are two 4-light stone mullioned windows with double chamfers, and two 3-light stone mullioned windows, also with double chamfers. The first floor has two 8-light stone mullioned windows, although one light is blocked; these are from the 19th century. The cottage to the east has a ground floor with one 6-light stone mullioned window, which is recessed and features a flush King mullion. On the first floor, there are two recessed 3-light stone mullioned windows. The east gable includes one 2-light stone mullioned window on the first floor.
On the north elevation, the ground floor features three entrances with stone surrounds, two of which have tie-stones. There is also one 2-light stone mullioned window and one single light window by each doorway. The first floor has four 3-light stone mullioned windows. The eastern cottage has an entrance with quoins. To the north, there are vaulted stone outbuildings that have a datestone, possibly not in its original location, reading H W M 1758.
