Description
The New Inn is a mid-19th century public house located on Manchester Road in Marsden. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a pitched stone slate roof with coped gables and stone brackets. The building has two ashlar stacks with two string courses and is arranged over two to three storeys.
The south elevation presents a symmetrical five-bay facade. The ground floor includes a central doorway flanked by squared pilasters, a frieze, and a pediment. On either side of the doorway are two single light windows with sashes. To the west, there is a stone porch with a former doorway that is partially blocked, featuring a semi-circular carved ashlar head with a pronounced keystone. Above this area is a cornice and blocking course. The first floor has five single light windows with sashes and a continuous pronounced cill band. The eastern part of the building breaks back and contains one two-light window across three floors, along with an entrance at ground level.
On the north elevation, the ground floor has an entrance with a stone surround and six sash windows. The first floor features four sash windows and two later windows. The west gable includes a Venetian window at the apex.
