Description
Nos 15 and 17 on Lane Head Road is a house dating from 1727, now divided into two separate homes. It is built from hammer-dressed stone and has a stone slate roof, with stacks on the ridge and right gable. The building has two storeys and features quoins, gable copings, and kneelers. The front facing the road has three bays; the first bay contains a modern doorway for No 15, adjacent to a modern forebuilding, and above it is a two-light flat-faced mullioned window. The second bay has a three-light similar window on each floor, while the third bay originally had a three-light window on the first floor, which now lacks its mullions but retains double chamfered surrounds. Each gable end features a three-light chamfered mullioned window on the first floor, although the window for No 17 is blocked. The gable wall of No 17 is set back to the left. The rear of the building retains double chamfered mullioned windows with eight lights (featuring a king mullion) and six lights above; there is also a four-light chamfered mullioned window and a smaller three-light chamfered mullioned window. In the yard, there is a loose lintel from the former porch on the gable end of No 17, inscribed "ERG 1727," indicating it was associated with Elkanah Hoyle.
