Description

Brown Hill is a late 17th-century house situated on Mill Bank, off Foxen Lane in Ripponden. The house follows a three-room through-passage plan. The front elevation is two storeys high, with a single-storey aisle or outshut to the rear. The rooms to the south of the doorway have double-chamfered mullioned windows on the first floor, including a five-light window with a four-light window above, a seven-light window with a four-light window above, and a doorway with a segmental arched lintel on shouldered jambs, topped with a two-light window above. The end cell has a flat-faced mullioned window of four lights to the first floor, and a three-light window above. The rear of the house features a doorway similar to that at the other end of the through passage, and a single two-light chamfered mullioned window. A stack is located backing onto the through passage, with two other stacks present elsewhere on the building.
