Description
Hoar Side Farmhouse and the attached barn date back to the 17th century, with the barn being added in the early 19th century and alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The east front has the barn on the left, which includes a basket-arched cart entry supported by skewbacks, with a Venetian window above it. To the left at a lower level is a mistal doorway. There is a weathered date plaque on a lunette that is said to read: "This barn was rebuilt by J. and E. Townley 1811." The barn has an inserted 5-light flat faced mullioned window with a 6-light chamfered mullioned window above. Additionally, there is a 5-light double chamfered mullioned window with a wider central light. On the first floor, there is a 5-light flat faced mullioned window with a taller central light that was formerly sashed. Next to an outshut, there is a lean-to porch with a 5-light window. The building features three stacks along the ridge.
