Description
Workhouse Farmhouse and the attached barn, dated 1828, is a laithe-house constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys. The barn on the left features a mistal doorway and a basket-arched cart entry, with a simple Venetian window positioned above. To the left of the barn, there is a blocked doorway next to a 5-light flat-faced mullioned window, with two 2-light windows above on the first floor. A 7-light window with a similar design is located above another doorway that has tie-stone jambs. The right-hand return wall includes a 2-light window on the first floor and in the attic. A date stone inscribed "This House and barn Rebuilt by John Mitchell 1828" is present. The building has a coped gable with kneelers and a single stack at the ridge, along with additional mullion windows at the rear. It was once used as overspill accommodation for the township workhouse at Everhill Shaw.
