Description

This barn, located 30 meters to the west of Foster Clough Farmhouse at the junction of Stoney Lane, is dated 1707, though the date appears to have been raised, and the west end was rebuilt in the 19th century. It is constructed from thin coursed rubble that is unmortared, with rough dressed quoins and a stone slate roof. The north elevation aligns with the road. There is a square-headed cart entry featuring quoined jambs and a monolithic lintel with projecting slates above. To the right, there is a mistal doorway set at a different angle, also with monolithic jambs. The left-hand return wall has a mistal door at a lower level, topped with a long quoined lintel that is inscribed with the date and set within a tressure. Additionally, there are two slightly chamfered arrow slit ventilators and coped gables.
