Description
Stocks Hall Cottage is a house that was formerly used as servants' quarters for the attached Stocks Hall. It likely dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is constructed from hammer dressed stone and has a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features three bays. The first two bays have six-light double chamfered mullioned windows on the ground floor, with the first bay lacking a mullion and inscribed with the word "Dairy." There is a doorway with monolithic jambs. The first floor has three bays of four-light flat faced mullioned windows with overlapping heads and sills. The wide stone gutter is supported by gutter brackets, and there is a central stack on the ridge.
Inside, one room contains a fireplace with a chamfered surround and a Tudor arched lintel, which has a false dropped keystone. This fireplace is an interesting example of vernacular architectural survival.
