Description

This is a house, originally known as Netherwood, now divided into two separate dwellings. It dates to the early 17th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone, now rendered, with a stone slate roof, and a large brick stack in the centre. It is two storeys high. The gabled front has quoins. A doorway has composite jambs and a four-centred arched lintel with spandrels, and a broken mullioned window with four lights. A continuous hood mould covers both windows. The first floor has two three-light double chamfered mullioned windows, also with a hood mould, one with a straight return. A return wall features a two-light double chamfered mullioned window with an arched head and spandrels, and a hollow chamfered mullion with a hood mould and straight return. Above this is a two-light double chamfered mullioned window (the mullion has been removed). The remainder of the range is set back. The rear of the building has a three-light double chamfered mullioned window with ovolo moulding (the mullions have been removed), with a three-light double chamfered mullioned window above it, and a five-light double chamfered mullioned window with the same above. Attached to the south front is a single-storey dairy, now used as a kitchen, featuring large ashlar quoins and a two-light double chamfered mullioned window. A return wall to the dairy has a four-light double chamfered mullioned window at first floor. On the ground floor, an early 18th-century section has double-framed mullioned windows with square reveals; some chamfered mullions remain, with a two-light window (a fire window) and a six-light window, with a three-light window above. The interior features stop-chamfered spine beams, and a four-centred arched head to the timber doorway of the dairy.
