Description

The Brighouse Lower Lock, part of the Calder and Hebble Navigation, was built around 1768, likely by James Brindley, who completed the work of John Smeaton following the Act of Parliament of 1758, around 1770. The lock is constructed from large dressed stone with cappings and features rebates for gates as well as angled retaining walls leading into the River Calder.
