Description

The Brighouse Upper Lock, part of the Calder and Hebble Navigation, was built around 1768. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features large stone cappings and rebates for gates. The lock has a balloon-shaped link to the Lower Lock, which also shares the same cappings. This information is referenced in D. Nortcliffe's "Buildings of Brighouse," published in 1978.
