Description
Elphaborough Hall is a two-cell house with origins dating back to the mid-17th century. It retains some original windows on the ground floor and was raised and extended in the early 19th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has quoins. The doorway has tie-stone jambs, and there are two double chamfered mullioned windows with six lights, including a king mullion. The window to the right has lost a mullion and has been opened up to form a doorway. On the first floor, there are three single sashed windows with altered glazing. The building has gutter brackets, coped gables with kneelers, and stacks, along with an additional stack at the centre of the ridge. The left-hand return wall features a doorway with tie-stone jambs, and both the first floor and attic have similar taking-in doors, which are blocked. It is likely that this end of the building was used for textile manufacture or storage. Inside, the central ground floor room has a coffered ceiling with stop-chamfered spine beams and floor joists.
