Description

Crimsworth Cottage and the attached barn date from 1703 and 1791, respectively. The barn is constructed of rubble brought to course with dressed quoins, while the cottage features finer dressed stone and a stone slate roof. The large barn on the left has a cart entry beneath a projecting porch with a monolithic lintel. An outshut at right angles has a doorway with a chamfered surround and a date inscribed on the quoined lintel. There is also an inserted 2-light window from around 1984.

The two-storey cottage has a higher roofline and features a doorway with interrupted jambs in a lean-to to the left of a 4-light flat-faced mullioned window, with a matching window above on the first floor. The cottage has quoins, and the right-hand return wall includes an outshut with quoined angles and a 2-light window. The rear of the cottage has a 4-light window on each floor, with quoins resting on top of the barn wall. A single stack is located at the ridge.

Inside, the barn has four bays with softwood queen post trusses. Two of the bays are aisled and contain original posts with jowled heads standing on a stylobat, with straight braces to the arcade plate and an oak tie beam.
