Description
This is a row of stone houses, numbers 8 to 12 Crossley Street, dating from the mid-19th century. The group value of these buildings is enhanced by their relationship with other buildings in the vicinity, including numbers 2 Wade Street, 12, 18 to 22 (even), and 17 to 33 (odd) Northgate, number 1 with the south extension of the White Swan Hotel, and Princess Buildings on Princess Street.
The row is four storeys high and includes two windows per property facing Crossley Street, with three windows to the east return of number 8, and two windows each in numbers 1 and 3 Wesley Court, which are included in the listing. Number 8 possesses an arcaded ground storey, featuring some rustication, and a corner entrance surmounted by a coat of arms within an entablature. Shops are located in numbers 10 and 12. The first-floor windows are corniced, topped by a bracketed main cornice beneath the top storey.
