Description

Nos 1 and 3 Crossley Street is a classical stone building from the mid to late 19th century, standing three storeys tall and featuring five windows. The ground storey includes shops framed by original pilasters, which are now painted. The upper windows are enriched and corniced, with the central first-floor opening consisting of three lights topped by a pediment. The building has a bracketed eaves cornice beneath a slated roof.

This building is part of an important group of listed buildings on Crossley Street, which includes No 2 Wade Street, No 12, Nos 18 to 22 (even), and Nos 17 to 33 (odd) Northgate, No 1 (with the south extension of the White Swan Hotel), the White Swan Hotel, and the Princess Buildings on Princess Street, as well as No 2 Crown Street. Additionally, it forms a group with the offices of the Borough Engineer located in the rear premises on Town Hall Street East.
