Description
Number 1 with the south extension of the White Swan Hotel is a mid to late 19th century classical stone building with four main storeys and six windows. The ground storey features car entry and modern shops, while retaining a pair of enriched cast iron columns. The first-floor windows are adorned with pediments on brackets, and there are corniced windows above, topped by a modillion crowning cornice. Dormers are present on the slated roof. This building, along with the south extension of the White Swan Hotel, the White Swan Hotel itself, and the Princess Buildings, forms an important group with other listed buildings in the area, including those on Crossley Street, Wade Street, Northgate, and Crown Street.
