Description
7 and 9 Crossley Street is a mid-to-late 19th-century classical-style stone building of four storeys plus an attic, forming a corner with Princess Street. It has five windows facing Crossley Street. The corner is rounded, featuring a blocked entrance and three windows, along with a double window opening onto the east return in Princess Street. The ground storey is rusticated and arcaded with decorative details. There is an entrance with an adjoining passageway to the west. First-floor windows have segmental pediments supported by brackets, and the windows above are corniced. A bracketed crowning cornice sits above, incorporating a balustrade punctuated by shaped stone dormers. The building is part of a significant group of listed buildings situated in Crossley Street, along with numbers 2 Wade Street, 12, 18 to 22 (even), and 17 to 33 (odd) Northgate, 1 (with the South extension of the White Swan Hotel), the White Swan Hotel, and Princess Street.
